As imperfect as this healthcare bill is, it does address a huge problem in the country: Our Health.
You said that nobody can truly understand freedom unless they have lived as a slave before experiences freedom. As a student who is a year away from not having insurance, I don't know slavery, but I do know fear. As a student I work a minimum wage job working 20 hours a week, this barely makes my rent and bills, not to mention the looming specter of repaying my loans when I graduate, if I suddenly lost my insurance, which will happen in a year, I would not be able to cover the expenses of getting sick or hurt. Health insurance is TOO expensive, and too many employers are playing games with their employees hours so they don't have to pay for insurance (Safeway is one great example of this).
So healthcare IS a problem, and the private sector is doing a great job of providing it, as long as you are rich, or are lucky enough to have insurance. The healthcare bill is nothing like Lenin, or Mao, or Hitler, and it doesn't get rid of the private sector, so you still have a 'choice' (I put quotes here because most of us actually don't have a choice, the private sector is closed to those of us without wealth or amazing jobs).
So this healthcare bill is going to cost over a trillion dollars? Thats over the next 10 years. How much do we spend on defense every single year? How much in ten years?
Think this recession sucked? This recession was CAKE compared to the great depression, and the long depression, and it has been shorter than both of them.

I was also trying to make the point that from a budgeting standpoint, if we're thinking long-term, it is cheaper to pay for social service programs now than to pay for the consequences of not having those programs like food stamps available. This means that even though there will be people taking advantage of the system, it is still cheaper than not offering those services. With food stamps and medi-cal at least there will be the chance of better nutrition and health check-ups that might prevent costly procedures. For instance, if diabetes is left unchecked or ignored dialysis might be needed. Kidney dialysis is an expensive procedure, for more expensive than if the diabetes is dealt with at an earlier stage.

Using your logic, it should also not be the job of the Federal Government to insure you have health insurance, correct? We could overhaul the private insurance system to make insurance more accessible without addressing every individual person's needs. Limiting frivolous lawsuits would make all of our insurance cheaper.

These are the representatives who can go and talk with employers directly and work to get jobs in particular local areas going again. It's not all on the federal government to get jobs going again in the state, the city or at your local small business. Local/state governments are there to do this job at the local levels. It’s called delegation of power and responsibility. It’s so funny when some voter from bum-fuck nowhere asks some presidential candidate what they are going to do for them. It’s not the federal government’s job to address individual problems, getting one person a job. It’s about dealing with issues at the national level. You want your voice heard or find help for YOU then go to the local/state representatives. That is where you will be heard.

It's a little tricky on the pumpkin pie. You can use En-R-G egg replacer, but for better flavor, for 2 pies, instead of egg & milk use 5 tablespoons tapioca flour, 1/4 cup flax meal, and 6 cups soymilk.
A simpler but still effective method is to just use the pumpkin, spices, 3/4 cup soy milk (again, unsweetened plain), one 14 oz. package of silken tofu, and 4 tbsp corn starch per pie, and blend all those together before baking. You could experiment with adding flax meal, as again that enriches the flavor like eggs do, and has some thickening effect.
Mac & cheese, yes we always do a vegan mac and cheese for Thanksgiving. Instead of using the vegan cheese they sell, we use a cheese sauce recipe from Joann Stepaniak's Uncheese Cookbook. Adding mayonnaise sounds like a great idea, but remember don't use real mayonnaise (it has eggs), use Veganaise.
For turkey replacement, we've always kept it simple by just making up stuffing (careful if you use pre-prepared bread/stuffing, many of those have dairy in them--I suppose you could use Safeway organic Seasoned Croutons, the one with the purple label has no animal products), sauteeing Cedar Lake Turkette slices (come in a can, you can get them at Eureka Natural Foods) in a little oil, soy sauce, and poultry seasoning, and then layering them on top of the stuffing in a big flat rectangular casserole dish, and baking in the oven for a while. IMO, Tofurkeys are expensive & not worth it.
This year, though, we're considering using Gardein, these "chicken breast" things we discovered in the "tofu section" at Safeway. They are incredibly like the real meat in texture, you could wash off the sauce and flavor them how you want, and they even seem actually healthy, being made from a grain mixture including quinoa, amaranth, and other grains like that and vegetable fibers. That said, they are also expensive, but hey it's Thanksgiving.
Soy sauce and garlic, or poultry seasoning and garlic, always make great bases for gravies.
Cranberry sauce shouldn't be hard. Sweet potatoes, of course, but use Marshmallow Creme (check the ingredients), not marshmallows if you do that, or just leave the marshmallow alone & do candied yams.
