JOB ANNOUNCEMENT
Part-time Relief Water Operator
A part-time Water Operator is responsible for assisting the General Manager with operating and maintaining the District’s treatment and distribution facilities. The water operator is expected to work at minimum of 2 days and at maximum of 5 days per week, up to 8 hours per day. The Relief Operator is to assume the day-to-day operation and maintenance of the District’s water system in the absence of the General Manager. Weekend coverage and on-call/pager availability is required.
Minimum Education, Certifications and Requirements:
Candidates must possess and maintain:
-High School Diploma, GED or equivalent
-Valid California driver’s license and a good driving record
-CA Water Treatment Certificate, Grade 1*
-CA Water Distribution Certificate, Grade 2*
-Must be located or willing to relocate within 30 minutes travel time from Hydesville
*or able to acquire certification within 6 months of hiring date
Desired Knowledge, Experience, and Qualities
-Previous experience operating water treatment and distribution systems
-Knowledge of best plumbing practices
-Reading, inspecting, and replacing water meters
-Maintaining of buildings and grounds
-Proficiency with both hand and power tools
-Inspecting, repairing, replacing water mains, service lines, valves, and hydrants
-Experience working in all weather conditions
-Great attention to detail
-Willingness to learn and a good attitude
Examples of duties performed
-Monitoring water production, tank levels, chlorination residuals, maintaining logbooks, recording data
-Handling chemicals, mixing chlorination vat, chlorination system maintenance
-Hydrant flushing, valve exercising
-Mowing, weed whacking, pressure washing
-Occasional carpentry, painting and mechanical work
-Meter reading
-Meter replacement
-Responding to water leaks, breaks, emergencies within the system
Hourly pay and Benefits
*This position is part-time with competitive starting pay dependent on qualifications*
Starting Pay is $20-$25/hour
On call/pager pay rate is $40/day
