My partner and I got her from the SPCA in Oregon 2 months ago. As it turns out my partner is terribly allergic, which triggers debilitating migraines. We'd had a lab who passed of old age a few years ago, so this new problem was unexpected. After 2 months of trying to find some solution while enduring near daily migraines, we've come to the realization that we're not going to be able to keep this sweetheart.
And she really is a sweetheart. She's house trained; we walk her 4 to 5 times a day and she has never once had an accident. She's fixed and has an established vet in Arcada. We have her on some vet-prescribed anti-itch medication, shampoo, and some omega-3 oil the vet gave us. She is up to date on all of her vaccinations and has had a flea treatment and is on a vet-prescribed heartworm preventative. She is well-loved and has been well cared for, for the couple of months that we've had her.
She will give a warning bark a weird noises outside of the house and when someone she's not met comes to the door. She has never bitten us or anyone. She is a lab, which means that she's hungry all the time. We have her on a wheat and grain-free kibble, 2 cups a day. She tends to be a little slobbery around her water bowl, so we have a slobber bowl for her that stopped the messy-drinking/splashing when drinking issue.
She LOVES looking at shadows and reflections. She's mesmerized by rainbow reflections. She will literally sit and watch a reflection on the wall for an hour.
While we walk her a lot, I think she would thrive in a yard. She wants to be active and will want to do some zoomie activities. She knows some commands like sit and shake. The biggest mark against her is that, especially at night, if she sees a rabbit, cat, or the like dart into a bush, she will jerk on the leash, which can be scary if you're not expecting it.
While, when we got her, the SPCA claimed that she was 7, we and her vet are skeptical about that and think that she's probably a bit younger. We are in our 50s and 60s and think that she would thrive in a younger home, or maybe with someone who liked jogging or running.
She would come with all of her medical records, her medications, and food and supplies. We are NOT requesting any adoption fees. We just want to make sure that you have the capacity to care for her and love her. The SPCA that we got her from was dingy and reeked; they didn't vet us, didn't verify our veterinarian, and let us adopt without an interview, so we want to ensure that we do a better job of ensuring a loving home.
