Vetted Housemates

Vetted Housemates 1 thumbnailVetted Housemates 2 thumbnail
The NORTHCOAST HOMESHARE program currently has a number of applicant home seekers looking to find an appropriate housing situation.

Most of them have reliable income (SSI, SSDI) and are retired/semi-retired with varying levels of activity outside the home.
Typically, they can afford $500-$700.
Some of them have pets.

A few of them are motivated to provide services in exchange for a more affordable rent. Services can range from yard work and household chores to caring for pets, running errands, or doing meal prep and sitting down for companionship.
For an elder and their family members, a housemate could mean the reassurance of a trustworthy person in the home and daily socializing.

We get inquiries weekly and there might be a profile that is a good match for your housing opening amongst those.

I interview a potential housemate only once it seems like there is a homeshare opportunity for their basic profile (rent, location, pet, smoking etc.).
Once you, as a home provider, have filled out an application, I know what to look for and focus on the most compatible profiles to work with.

Our matching process is thorough and while it might take longer than if you were to do it on your own, the program offers the added security of a local, third-party agency as a witness to the relationship and arrangement.

We start off all potential arrangements with a 2-week trial period during which the prospective housemate is expected to maintain their current housing, in case the match does not work out. That way they have an out if parties figure out it won't work after all (sometimes it's an unexpected noise, temperature setting, use of bathroom etc.).
